D’banj, wife to record statement on son’s death
Popular Nigerian artist, D’banj, also known as the Koko Master, has been ordered by Nigerian police to record a statement regarding the events that led to his son’s death a few days ago. According to the statement released by the commissioner of police, Lagos State, D’banj and his wife are expected to present the statement at the police headquarters once the mourning period is over.
D’banj, whose real name is Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, the same name he gave to his son, will be expected to make a formal report on the circumstances that led to his son’s death.
The Afrobeats star and his wife Didi, lost their son, Daniel III on June 24th this year, just thirteen months after his birth as a result of drowning. The incident happened when family friends had come to visit. The 13 month old boy is said to have drowned in the indoor swimming pool.
D’banj and Didi ,married in a secret ceremony in Lagos on June 2, 2016. The star defended this move by saying that he chose to keep his marriage secret due to the numerous complications associated with a public relationship. Didi, whose real name is Lineo Didi Kilgrow is a native of Jos, Plateau state. The twenty four year old is the younger step sister of Samantha Walsh, who presents the big Friday show alongside Falz on MTV base. Her father is American while her mother is half Nigerian and half South African.
The singer confirmed the death of his only son by posting a black background on his Instagram account and captioning it,” Trying times but my God is Always and Forever Faithful.”
Meanwhile, the police command of Lagos state released a statement saying that a delegation of officers had visited the family home located in Ikoyi, a Lagos suburb, on Monday but there was no one at home.
