‘Not too young to run’, the latest nuclear weapon invented by the Nigerian politicians to distract us from reality- by Olukayode ife Joshua aka CANOPy

I was thinking about this ‘pointless movement’ of ‘not too young to run’ going round the nation and I began to ask myself, is young people the solution to Nigeria’s problem?. Then I began my research and I discovered that there are many things we Nigerians don’t really know.

I want to clear the air with this. An average Nigerian don’t understand the term character and age. Leadership is far more than unrealistic optimism, sugar coated manifesto and hypocritical demonstrations. Personal character/attribute has a sinequanon role to play in leadership. How many of our ‘young Nigerian’ character entails credibility, selflessness, consistency, trust worthy persistence, contentment?? Most especially selflessness and contentment! How many youth (that are shouting up and down) are ready to spend ‘millions of naira’ to campaign only to get to the post to start earning less than 200 thousand Naira monthly basic salary with no allowance for this and that? How many Nigerian youth are ready to sacrifice their comfort to build a better Nigeria not only for this generation but for the next one? How many Nigerian youth are ready to set aside all sort of favoritism? How many Nigerian youth are transparent?? To be frank and sincere, age has nothing to do with character. The term ‘age differece’ to me is ‘the measure of individual delay of existence’ while ‘age’ is the measure of human existence ‘ . As the old politician are busy looting and misbehaving so as the likes of the so called young and vibrant politician are bust eating Nigeria up. Thats is to show that personal character is constant be it young or old. Even in small constituency ie tertiary institution, youths have proven to be the biggest thieves of all time, Like the other day I got a news about the OAU SUG executives stabbing theirselves all because of 3 million Naira that their father did not work for and they keep on shouting one stupid Aluta continua slogan and the innocent Nigeria students answer Victoria ascerta giving them maximum vote to lead not knowing that this stupid fake representatives are planning on how ‘Aluta’ the school’s fund into thier miserable pocket. Or is the news I got from a genuine source that the small gate project done in Auchi Polytechnic was budgeted for almost 1.5 million Naira, gate that is not up to 3.2m wide and 1.8m high, the gate is not bullet proof o. Maybe the slogan should be ‘not too young to steal’. Today, 70% of Nigerian youth are into fraudulent act popularly known as ‘yahoo yahoo’, ‘g’, ‘hacking’ etc. To my greatest surprise, young ladies are into this act. The degree of this covetous act has reached the stage of rituals whereby a young boy who could barely kill a hen can now cut off human private part for rituals so that his clients can send him their life savings, they even give a name to that act…. ‘yahoo +. I am sure this boy’s will be ready to cutoff their opponents head in order to win the election. When I was much younger, when armed robbers, kidnappers, cultist, ritualist were caught and their age are asked you will hear 46, 52, 39 but now we hear of 18, 19, 21, 25, pathetic!!! In those day if you ask a vibrant promising young man of his aspiration and when you hear this man speak out, one will be confident of a bright future for him but now an average Nigerian youth aspiration is only car they want to buy, clubs they want to attend and baby mama’s they want to keep. All these are reflection of Personal Character not age. I believe that ‘Age is a measure of one’s existence, good character is an instrument that guides the purposeful existence of human.’

Nigerians, especially the youth ‘mistake what they need for what they want’. We need good infrastructural and social amenities. We should continue fighting for it. We need to review and amend some policies and the constitution guiding this country, we should continue fighting.we need to look into the allowances of the legislature, executive and judiciary because they can’t be claiming they are serving the nation while they are making millions for just making noise and the masses can’t afford three square meal, we should continue fighting. We need to check the idea of restructuring and see how everyone can benefit from it, we should continue to fight for it. We can’t just start working on our want when our needs are not met. You don’t need to vote in 25years old man as president before things can be good. We all don’t need to be in the government before we can impact the society. Politician and business men that are fond of doing money laundering can start up business that will enhance employment. Wealthy Religious leaders can build big factory, help provide social amenities instead of building expensive university, acquiring acres of lands for camp instead of farms. Instead of conducting everyday vigil and telling the congregation that demon are the one holding Nigeria wealth (the demon that did not hold their private jet) , they can as well build a massive ICT/ innovatoin camp that will build the Nigeria youth up for a better tomorrow. if earth is truly a market place and heaven is home and there are big schools, hotel, houses, big camps and private jet with millions of dollars still swiming in their account (In the name of the religioun), why can’t they pioneer the renovation /development of the nation, ‘Abi market dey forbid renovation ‘ . After all we are going to leave all this things behind when we die. The youth need to sit up and be well oriented. Everybody can not be an entertainer, everybody cannot be a billionaire. The youth need to stop ‘playing the ostrich’. The growth of the nation should be the number one priority of every Nigerian youth. The youth need to be provided grant at easy and their expenditures should be scrutinized . Scholarship should be awarded easily not only to brilliant/outstandimg student but to other student that are burning to learn and explore. At least recoverd looted money and senator’s monthly allowance can go for the students grants and scholarship. instead of using billions of dollars to purchase weapons to fight Insungency instigated by the same politician in goverment, more schools should be built.

This epistle is not a debate but sort of re-awareness that we should not lose focus on the right thing to be done. Voting in 10years old boy to the presidency sit won’t change a dime. Each and everyone of us need to check ourself, examine our character and stop deceiving ourselves. Let us pick something up from this little epistle.
